01What SiftVid is
SiftVid is a Windows desktop app you use to organize your own video files on your own PC — a local file-management tool for media you already possess. It is a one-time $14.99 purchase with a 7-day full-access free trial, published by SiftVid. There are no subscriptions, no tiers, and no monthly plans.
Your videos, thumbnails, tags, and search index stay on your machine. We operate no storage vault, no hosted library, and no web version of the app. There is no feature that uploads, streams, shares, or publishes a video file, a frame of one, or a thumbnail — not to us, and not to anyone else. Because we never hold a copy of anything you organize, there is no circumstance in which your library sits on our servers.
The one exception, and it is opt-in
SiftVid has optional metadata lookup features, switched off until you turn them on. Once enabled they can send a numeric fingerprint computed from a file — or, where you have enabled or written a scraper definition, a fragment taken from the file name — to a third-party service you chose, in order to suggest a title or performer. That is the only library-derived data that ever leaves your PC, it never includes the video or any image from it, and it goes to that service rather than to us. The Privacy Policy spells this out in full.
Browser-based versions of SiftVid were offered in the past. Those web applications have been retired. Everything this policy describes concerns the desktop application and this website.
02Our neutrality statement
A tool, like VLC media player — not a content service
SiftVid provides local file-management tooling for media the user already possesses; the user is solely responsible for how they obtain and use their media. Like VLC, SiftVid does not know, and has no way of knowing, what files a person opens, organizes, or plays with it. We do not review, approve, or endorse any file you choose to process with SiftVid.
This neutrality is the product, not a loophole: SiftVid's design deliberately keeps every file operation on your device so that no one, including us, has visibility into your library.
03Your files, your responsibility
You are solely responsible for confirming that you have the legal right to store, transcode, tag, and organize every file you load into SiftVid, and for complying with all applicable laws regarding that media, including copyright law. The fact that SiftVid will technically open a file does not mean you have any right to that file under copyright, contract, or any other law.
If you use SiftVid to organize media you do not have the right to possess or use, that is a violation of the law and of these terms regardless of the tool involved. See Sections 05 and 06 for what we can do about it.
04Prohibited conduct
Independent of the content itself, you agree not to:
- Resell, sublicense, rent, lease, or redistribute SiftVid or your license key.
- Share your license key with other people, or use one license concurrently on behalf of multiple people.
- Copy, modify, translate, or create derivative works of SiftVid, or reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble it, except where applicable law expressly permits it despite this restriction.
- Attempt to bypass license or trial validation.
- Probe, scan, or test the security of the SiftVid application or our website.
- Configure SiftVid's optional lookup features to query a third-party service in a way that breaches that service's own terms, ignores its rate limits, or uses credentials you are not entitled to use.
- Use SiftVid in furtherance of any activity that violates applicable law.
05We do not monitor your content
SiftVid runs entirely on your device. We have no technical ability to view, verify, moderate, or delete any user's local content. There is no telemetry, no content scanning, and no path by which a video, frame, or thumbnail can reach us — so unlike a hosted platform, we have no signal from “anomalous activity” or automated content review, because there is nothing running on our side to observe.
The AI classification that labels scenes in your library runs on your own processor or graphics card, against a model file stored on your disk. Its results are written to a local database on your machine. No classification result, tag, or search query is reported to us, and the optional lookup features in Section 01 send nothing that describes what a file contains — only a name-derived phrase or a fingerprint, and only to the service you chose.
This means the only way we ever learn of a possible violation of Section 03 or 04 is a formal legal notice from a rightsholder, regulator, or law-enforcement body. See Section 06.
06Legal-notice revocation protocol
The only enforcement action available to us
SiftVid runs entirely on your device. We have no technical ability to view, verify, moderate, or delete any user's local content. Where a formal legal notice obligates us to act, the only action available to us is deactivating the associated license key, which disables paid functionality but touches no user files.
When we receive a formal legal notice:
- We review the notice against a validation checklist to confirm it is a legitimate, actionable legal or regulatory demand (see our internal revocation runbook).
- If it obligates us to act, we look up the license key associated with the named purchaser in our issuance records.
- We deactivate that license key. Deactivation disables paid functionality on future launches of the app. It does not delete, hide, modify, transmit, or otherwise touch any file on the user's computer — we have no access to reach those files even if we wanted to.
- We notify the affected key holder by email that their license was deactivated and why, unless a notice legally prohibits us from doing so.
We will tell you which clause of this policy, or which legal basis, we believe applies, unless doing so would interfere with a legal investigation.
07Sending a legal notice
If you are a rightsholder, regulator, or law-enforcement body with a formal legal notice concerning a SiftVid license holder, send it to us. Because we cannot see the content in question ourselves, a notice must identify the license or purchaser as specifically as possible.
How to send a notice
Email reply@siftvid.com with the notice, the legal basis for the request, and any identifying information you have for the license or purchaser (email, order date, or license key). Put LEGAL NOTICE in the subject line so it is triaged ahead of ordinary support. We acknowledge receipt within two business days and act on valid notices promptly.
One address, on purpose
reply@siftvid.com — support, billing, privacy, licensing, and formal legal notices all reach us here. SiftVid is a small publisher and runs one monitored mailbox rather than a row of aliases that nobody reads.
What counts as a legal notice
DMCA notices, subpoenas, court orders, regulator demands, and law-enforcement requests. Anything else is ordinary correspondence and does not need the subject-line prefix.
08Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when SiftVid's product changes or when the legal environment requires it. Material changes will be announced on this page with an updated effective date at least fourteen days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
