01Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using SiftVid, or by purchasing a license on this website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not install or use SiftVid.
02What SiftVid is
SiftVid provides local file-management tooling for media you already possess; you are solely responsible for how you obtain and use your media.
SiftVid is a Windows desktop application and nothing else. It is installed on your PC and runs there. There is no account, no login, no cloud storage, no hosted library, no web version, and no telemetry. We do not operate any service that holds, streams, or backs up your videos, and there is no storage vault of any kind on our side.
Desktop application only
Earlier versions of SiftVid were offered as browser-based applications. Those web applications have been retired and are no longer operated. SiftVid is now sold and supported solely as the Windows desktop application described in these terms. This website exists to sell licenses, deliver them, publish these policies, and provide support — nothing on it stores or processes your video library.
See the Privacy Policy for exactly what does and does not leave your machine, and the Acceptable Use Policy for the neutrality statement that governs how we think about your use of the tool.
03License grant & ownership
In exchange for the one-time fee described in Section 05, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use SiftVid, tied to your license key, on the devices you personally use. This is a license to use the software, not a sale of it.
Proprietary software — not open source
SiftVid is proprietary commercial software. All right, title, and interest in the application — its source code, user interface, design, name, and logo — belong to SiftVid. SiftVid is not open-source software, is not released under any open-source license, and no part of these terms grants you a right to its source code. The separately licensed open-source components SiftVid uses are described in Section 08 and listed on our Licensing page; their licenses cover those components only, never SiftVid itself.
You may not copy, distribute, rent, lease, sublicense, sell, or make SiftVid available to others; modify, translate, or create derivative works of it; or reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble it, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.
You always retain full ownership of your own video files and of anything you create with SiftVid, including compilations, exports, tags, and cut lists. We claim no rights to your content, because we never receive it.
04Free trial
7-day full-access trial
SiftVid offers a 7-day full-access free trial. Every feature is unlocked during the trial — there is no artificial limit on videos, exports, or functionality. No credit card is required to start a trial.
If you do not purchase a license before the trial ends, paid functionality is disabled. Your existing local library, the video files themselves, and anything you already exported remain fully intact and accessible on your PC — the trial ending never deletes or hides your files.
05Pricing & purchases
| Product | Price | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| SiftVid | $14.99 one-time | Single payment, free updates forever |
SiftVid is sold as a single one-time purchase. There are no subscriptions, no tiers, and no monthly plans. Purchases happen entirely on this website (siftvid.com) via Stripe Checkout; the desktop app itself has no purchase flow.
Price changes
- The price you pay is the price you keep. We will never charge an existing purchaser again for the same license.
- If we change the price for new customers, it has no effect on licenses already purchased.
- All future updates within the SiftVid product are included free, regardless of when you bought.
06Refund policy
14-day, self-service
If you are not satisfied, request a full refund within 14 days of your purchase date — no reason required. Refunds are self-service: email reply@siftvid.com with your license key or purchase email and the refund is processed against that purchase, no manual approval or negotiation needed. See the Refund Policy for the full detail.
A refund deactivates the associated license key (see Section 10). It has no effect on your local files — anything you already indexed, tagged, or exported with SiftVid stays on your PC.
07Your content, your responsibility
SiftVid provides local file-management tooling for media you already possess; you are solely responsible for how you obtain and use your media.
SiftVid does not inspect, verify, moderate, or have any technical means of viewing the files you process — see Section 10 and the Privacy Policy. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to possess and use any media you load into SiftVid, including compliance with copyright law. See the Acceptable Use Policy for the full statement.
08Third-party components
SiftVid relies on software and model weights written by other people, each under its own license. Two are large enough to be fetched after installation rather than bundled: the FFmpeg video engine and the on-device AI model used for local scene recognition. SiftVid tells you their sizes and asks for your consent before the first byte of either is downloaded.
These components are licensed to you by their own authors under their own terms, not by us. Nothing in these Terms enlarges or restricts the rights those licenses give you, and nothing in those licenses gives you rights in SiftVid itself. Where a component's license conflicts with these Terms as to that component, the component's license governs it.
The full list — what each component is, which license it is under, where to obtain its source, and what that means for you in practice — is on our Licensing page. The same information ships inside the app under About → Open-source licenses.
09Optional lookup features
SiftVid includes optional metadata lookup features that are off by default and only contact the internet after you turn them on in Settings. When enabled, they can send a numeric fingerprint computed from a file — or, where you have enabled or written a scraper definition, a fragment taken from the file name — to a third-party service you have selected, in order to suggest a title, studio, performer, or date. They never send the video itself, or any frame or thumbnail of it.
Your relationship with those services is yours
Any metadata source you enable is operated by someone else, under their own terms of service and at their own discretion. You are responsible for using those services within their terms, for supplying your own API key where one is required, and for whatever the results say. We do not operate them, do not warrant the accuracy of anything they return, and cannot guarantee that any of them will remain available. Suggestions are always presented for your review; SiftVid never applies them to your library on its own.
The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what these features transmit and to whom.
10License deactivation
The only enforcement action available to us
SiftVid runs entirely on your device. We have no technical ability to view, verify, moderate, or delete any user's local content. Where a formal legal notice obligates us to act, the only action available to us is deactivating the associated license key, which disables paid functionality but touches no user files.
A license key may be deactivated (a) at your own request within the refund window (Section 06), or (b) in response to a formal legal notice, as described in the Acceptable Use Policy. In either case, deactivation only disables paid functionality on future launches — it never deletes, hides, modifies, or accesses any file on your computer.
11Service availability
SiftVid is local software, not a hosted service. Once installed, its core functionality does not depend on any ongoing connection to us. We do not operate infrastructure that your copy of SiftVid depends on to run, and we make no uptime, availability, or continuity promises — there is no service to be unavailable.
- Update checks (Privacy Policy, Section 02) are best-effort and optional; SiftVid works normally without them.
- The website (siftvid.com) is used for purchases, license delivery, and support, and may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance without advance notice.
- Back up your local videos as you normally would — SiftVid runs on your PC, and we have no copy of your files to restore from.
12Limitation of liability
We work hard to make SiftVid reliable, but software is not perfect. SiftVid is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind.
- We are not liable for data loss on your local computer — please back up your files.
- Our maximum liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for your SiftVid license.
- We are not responsible for third-party services (such as Stripe) or for content you choose to process with SiftVid.
This does not affect any consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
13Disputes & governing law
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA.
- We prefer to resolve disputes through direct communication first — email reply@siftvid.com.
- If that fails, disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration.
- You waive your right to participate in class action lawsuits.
For EU users: nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under applicable EU consumer protection laws.
14Changes to these terms
- Minor changes: posted on this page with an updated effective date.
- Major changes: email notification to purchasers at least 30 days before they take effect.
- Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
